written by a man who has recovered from from buying a pint, received a rare text and fearing for the city of Munich.

This weekend 2 of our number went on a stag weekend to Munich in Germany,Tom(statto)Hunter and Joe(legohead)Pollard, previous British visits to Munich over the years have resulted in devastation and destruction. On the upside the Austin Brothers never went.I received a text from Alan one of our senior members "Dick can you text me the result I am at my daughters 60th birthday today" plus I have recovered from buying Roddy Jonas a pint for his birthday with a visit to the doctor.
For the final home game of the season and the Presidents Lunch the visitors were Stewarts and Lloyds RFC who go by the name of SLs.76 people sat down, a first for treasurer Kevin Hick plus known associates of the club Stu Rudman,Craig Dickens,Mark Clayton and Dave Lamb. Not forgetting club physios Alex and Fern who did not sit down but stood up.The match official for the day Mr Peter Dixon from Bristol an insurance salesman, who is off down under next week for 6 months in Oz and New Zealand.
On the kick off Belgrave defended the clubhouse end on 5 minutes a Belgrave lineout on the halfway line, with players leaping in the air the ball came to evergreen, veteran Ivan Wright who never moved a planned play no doubt ,he set up Jamie(the cobra)Crumbie to go on a 40 yard run and score under the posts, duly converted by Kevin(Bungle)Curtis.
A period of play followed where the SLs pack put the Belgrave line under pressure, the line held and play took place around the halfway line that was littered by mistakes, knock ons and dropped passes. With SLs giving as good as they got, this was going to be a hard fought encounter. On 30 minutes Cameron McGregor went on a 40 yard run and split open the Belgrave defence setting up Harrison Shipp to score.
Belgrave struck back from their own half 3 kicks along the ground by Sean(quick thinking)Kyle took the ball to SLs line where Niall(right place, right time)O'Connor following up dropped on the ball to score.
SLs struck back again when a Jack Kyle clearing kick from the Belgrave 22 was blocked and caught by Lee Richmond, who ran in for a score.Halftime saw honours even at 12 points all.
The second half became the battle of the packs with both teams giving their all at the scrums,Jamie(50 shades of)Gray went on a 10 yard run from behind a scrum and took several defenders over the line with him to score.Keeping SLs in the match Connor McGregor put 6 points on the board with the boot to keep them within a single point of Belgrave,19 to 18.
For a period the Belgrave pack dominated the game and kept SLs inside their own 22,a jinking run by Sean Kyle drew in the defence,he laid a pass to Kevin Curtis who crossed the line.A third time lucky for Gary(G man)Chikopa who having dropped 2 passes, picked up a third on the halfway line and as last week carried all before him dashing down the wing to score.
On the final play of the match a score by Tom Ball who made his usual 8 to 10 yards along the wing to cross the line.Final score Belgrave 38 SLs 18.I would add that SLs deserved more from this game for their spirited display,Belgrave only pulling away in the final minutes of the match.
A final Chilli and chips for the season from the ladies of the kitchen, a nights drinking commenced, people kept mentioning Kitty,I want to know who is she and whats she doing at Belgrave.
Next week the final league fixture of the season away at Stamford RFC with a 3pm kick off, hope to see you there.Just off now to Munich with a chap called Montgomery, something about signing a surrender.
