Written by a man watching paint dry, then painting the town red and watching sausages vanish.

Today a visit to Belgrave by Leicester Forest RFC for a top of the league clash,Forest are 2nd in the league and Belgrave 3rd.In the earlier fixture at Forest they picked up 5 points and Belgrave 2 losing bonus points so all to play for.
The match official for the day John Hill from Melton who now sports a designer stubble beard on first seeing him I thought it was Don Johnson from Miami Vice the TV programme from the 1970s and 80s.But why would Don Johnson be at Belgrave on a wet and windy day in January when he could be in Miami.
On the kick off Belgrave defended the clubhouse end,Forest opened the score with a pushover try by Fraser Richards which was converted, the rest of the half was played in and around the halfway line with both sides cancelling each other out.I did look for some wet paint to watch it dry,it was whats known in chess as a stalemate. But both sides gave it their all.On the final play of the first half Belgrave scored through their forwards,no one knew who scored but following a meeting of the great and the good on the side line the smart money was on Tom Knifton.Halftime the score was Belgrave 7 points Forest 7 points.
From the start of the second half both teams decided to paint the town red and no one had time to watch it dry.Josh Barratt put 3 points on the board with his boot.Belgrave then had Forest backed up under their own posts a loose back pass and the ball there for the taking,a foot race followed by both teams which was won by Roddy(weak ankles)Jonas who dropped on the ball to score.Forest pulled a score back with a long pass out to the wing. The score now Belgrave 17 Forest 12.
A mistake by a Forest defender on the ensuing kick off, with the ball being fumbled before going into touch gave Belgrave a lineout on the Forest 22,the lineout was won by Belgrave and Sean(quick thinking)Kyle went on a run selling 3 dummies, one of which was bought by a man at the bus stop on Thurcaston Road.He beat several defenders to score.Forest again hit back again making the score Belgrave 22,Forest 17.
The pressure still on Forest and their scrum 10 yards from their line, the ball squirted out of the rear of the scrum on the Forest side,a mad scramble followed with possession changing several times,Sean Kyle picked the ball up and dived over to score.Again Forest hit back on the last play of the game with a long pass out to the wing. Final score Belgrave 29 Forest 24.Other scorers for Forest Dan Simandi and Lewis Elliman.Following this result Belgrave leapfrog Forest into 2nd place by 1 point.Forest pick up 2 losing bonus points to keep up the pressure.
An excellent buffet by the ladies of kitchen followed by a spag/bog.In the event of a cocktail sausage eating contest I nominate Frankie Punchard 6 years of the Belgrave minis and Cropston CC drinks team to be on our team.He finished what was left in the dish.A good man with a knife and fork.
Next week an away fixture at Corby,Stewarts and Lloyds RFC hope to see you there.
