What a weekend for our LADIES XV

Well what a weekend the lovely Belper Ladies have had, in conditions so hot it was more like playing in Dubai than the West Midlands, it was a weekend of firsts; first Belper Ladies Tour, first ever 7s matches, first wins under our belts and first try scoring for many of our ladies and, for a brave few who could be dragged out of the bar, their first time playing quidditch!

Scores were as follows:

Belper v. Fullers
Belper 22 : Fullers 10

Belper v. Camberley
Belper 27 : Camberley 12

Deciding match Belper v. Wymdonham and Newbury
Belper 5 : W&N 20

Congratulations to our try scorers for Belper:
Kate (aka Dave)

The ladies dominated the first two matches, scoring nine tries and putting in some crunching tackles (quite literally on occasions). Support play and passing was excellent by all throughout and there were moments of fantastic creativity (both on the pitch and in the post match song choices!). A very fast and physical final match after an hour's break proved to be a challenge too far in the end but a second half try from first time scorer Libby gave the ladies something to cheer about and they came second place in the tournament overall, what a testament to their excellent team work and rugby skills! We are already looking forward to next year!???????

Belper Ladies Rugby Team would like to say a huge thank you to both Peak Mortgages & Protection and The George and Dragon, Belper for sponsoring our tour shirts.

We would also like to thank our very own Mr Potter (he might not be a wizard but he helped work his magic with our tour shirts... ?)

Siobhan Peeling
Belper Ladies Captain
