United fight back for deserved point

Paul Postlethwaite again had to make numerous changes. Curtis Fallows, Stuart Marshall, Josh Wisdom and Ben Litchfield were all missing from last Saturday. Tom Yates, Adam Taylor and Jay Harrison all returned while Matt Wright came in for his first start.

Bilborough Pelican started the brightest in what was always destined to be a close game. Pelican were having the majority of possession but United looking dangerous on the break.

After 18 minutes Bilborough Pelican opened the scoring. Poor play in midfield saw Pelican steal the ball and after a quick break a cross to the back post was easily headed in by the unmarked Tim Cullinan.

The game carried on in the same manner but Bilborough Pelican could of doubled the lead after 30 minutes when a near post header was instinctively saved by Adam Jablonski.

Belper United finished the half the stronger with chances falling to Sam Vickers and Tim Perry but United were unable to find the equaliser.

Half-time : Belper United 0-1 Bilborough Pelican

The second half started with the majority of possession being with Pelican, but United with wide men Sam Vickers and Matt Wright were starting to look the more dangerous.

The game became an scrappy affair with both sides cancelling each other out until the 81st minute when a touch of magic lit up the game.

A Belper United cross from the left appeared to be running away from goal until Sam Vickers flicked it back over a defenders head and smashed a volley past the goalkeeper for a deserved equaliser.

United finished the stronger but the game remained all square.

Paul Postlethwaite says 'We put in a much better performance today and worked hard for the whole 90 minutes. Everyone in the club should take credit for today as they did us all proud but special praise should go to young Matt Wright who came in for his first game and had a very impressive debut. We now have a very busy run of league and cup games and know we have to utilise the squad accordingly. '
