Chris Pether

Long time First XI captain and wicket keeper. Most successful Bentley CC captain of all time, a fact which sometimes you can spend a full 8 seconds in his company without him mentioning. Batting is based around a bunted drive and a pull shot so violent it carries a maximum prison sentence of 8 years, he is also a sound keeper. Mostly. Well, sometimes. Look, it’s a hard seeing ground OK? Also a very useful man to have at the club as you can tell how long it is until Christmas by when he makes his annual funny joke. When not playing cricket can often be found either stirring up any pot that he can find or stomping around because he’s lost a completely inconsequential friendly/club match.
Describe yourself in one word.
Competitive (aka bad loser!)
How long have you played for Bentley CC?
18 years (I think!)
Fantasy tea (2 x sandwiches, 1 x savoury, 1 x cake, 1 x wildcard)
As long as there's Cathy Smith's flapjacks I don't care about the rest. (That's not an innuendo by the way!)
If you could share a century partnership with any cricketer from history, who would it be?
Brian Lara, one of my favourite players growing up.
What’s the best thing about playing for Bentley CC?
Playing with mates.
Who would play you in a film of your life?
Dwayne Johnson
Whats your earliest memory of Bentley CC?
Playing my first game for the club (possibly for U13's?), away at Shenfield. I think i got a solid 19.
Whats the best shot you ever played? What’s the best ball you’ve bowled?
Best Shot - It was a massive slog in a Sunday game against Stock at home. A really loopy spinner was bowling, I went down the pitch and basically swung as hard as I could! I think it's the furthest I've ever hit a cricket ball, it hit the house on the far right over the road. I got out next ball trying to do the same again!
Best Ball - After months of taking stick for being the only adult player to have never taken a wicket for Bentley, I bring myself on to bowl in a Sunday friendly. First ball, stone dead in front, LBW! Thanks very much!
The best thing I can cook is… I'd like to think i can cook most things, but you can't beat a good roast dinner.
Who do you travel to away games with and why?
Usually whoever needs a lift, cos I'm such a nice guy!
How do you see the rest of your cricket career going?
Hopefully a couple more league wins, before a slow descent through the teams.
Where in the world would you love to play a cricket match and why?
Lord's. It's the greatest sporting venue in the world.
What would you do with your Saturdays if you didn't play cricket?
Probably watch sport of some kind.
If you could be one age forever, what age would that be?
23 was a pretty good age, I didn't get injured every week!
A day at the Test match, an evening T20, or watching a game at home?
Test match, no contest.
What is your dream job?
Professional sportsman. (Any sport will do. Maybe something easy that you can keep playing for years, like golf.)
Describe your Bentley career in three words
Two league titles.
What do you wish you could do better?
Win the toss.
What is your dream house?
Something big, out in the country, but not too far from civilization.
If a ball gets teed up in the air, who is the Bentley player you want to see under it?
There's plenty of people I wouldn't want to see under it! Any of the Colemans would do though.
We will be putting up a player profile almost weekly on a Friday until then start of the season, then more through the year if there is enough take up. If you want some questions to do your own profile, just email Steve Coleman here
