As a club we are required to have a Child Welfare Officer on our committee. Without this we would not be allowed to play league games or have colts teams next season. For the last 3 years Karen Hurst has kindly done this job, but her qualifications have now expired so we need a new volunteer to take over.
The main purpose of the role is to be a contact point should any issues occur during the season relating to children, so on the whole it is not a very time consuming role. Here are a full list of the responsibilities:
- Be a point of contact for members and parents to come to if they have concerns
- Make sure the policies and procedures are in place
- Make sure that everyone who should be vetted to work with children, is vetted by the ECB
- Attend monthly committee meetings
To qualify for the role, the new volunteer would also be required to attend 2 short training courses held at The County Ground in Chelmsford on various dates over the winter. These can be booked online and will be paid for by the club. More information on the role can be found here: https://www.ecb.co.uk/safeguarding/welfare-officers.
Please email Chris Pether (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would consider volunteering or for more information.
