The Shenfield openers raced to 61 from the first 6 overs, but good fielding and tighter bowling thereafter slowed the run rate and a couple of wickets resulted in the total being a more respectable 94 after 12 overs. Wickets then began to fall more regularly, with Fin Gray (3 for 22) and Reece Easton (2 for 15) sharing 5 wickets. Wickets too for Abi Brown and Zach Humphreys ensured that Shenfield finished on 143 for 7 from their 20 overs, with only 49 runs coming from the final 8 overs.
It would take a good batting performance to challenge this total and unfortunately we found ourselves 6 for 4 after 6 overs, not helped by a needless run out. Credit to Shenfield, who bowled extremely well, and further wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Extras top scored with 18, but the final total of 29 all out in just 12.5 overs was disappointing. It was no disgrace to lose to Shenfield who are comfortably the strongest side in the District, and the achievement of getting to the Final, beating two Division One teams on the way, is something that the players can be very proud of. We were at least able to collect the Division Two trophy after the Final, having won all our League games.
