Bentley won the toss and elected to field first.
Our bowling started off well with mostly a good line and length on a fast outfield. Their opening batsman was strong, but we managed to get him out fairly quickly for 18. We continued to bowl accurately to keep their run rate down, but unfortunately, with the introduction of additional bowlers, could not maintain this and together with misfields, they finished on a total of 112 for 5 with 34 extras. Special mention goes to Anal Patel who is an Under 7 and very bravely agreed to play and fielded very well, always concentrating and doing his best. Ben, Amar, Luca and Matt finished with figures of 4-1-16-0, 4-0-16-1, 4-0-21-1 and 4-0-23-3, respectively.
Matt and Luca opened our batting and through a combination of quick, alert running and intelligent shot selection built an excellent partnership of 60 after 10 overs, albeit with a couple of dropped catches. Although our run rate dropped subsequently, Chelmsford’s fielding was generous at times and we continued to build our total at a similar rate, got to 101 off 17 overs and within striking distance of our target. Unfortunately, we could not sustain our strike rate, partly due to the fine form of their last two bowlers and narrowly missed out on a first competitive victory. Matt, Luca, Amar and new player, Alex all made good contributions of 23, 25, 11 and 12 runs, respectively.

Chelmsford were very friendly and hospitable, albeit their tea was somewhat modest. Although the boys were all very disappointed, they competed very well. This was a significant batting improvement and we were a bit unlucky to lose.
