Berkshire enjoyed an excellent first day against Shropshire as they go in search of their fourth Unicorns Championship win of the season.
Having elected to bat first at Shifnal, they produced a solid batting performance to reach a very respectable total of 350-8 off their 90 overs.
Their runs came from (in batting order): Archie Carter 83, Savin Perera 16, Euan Woods 25, James Morris 96, Luke Hollman 41, Andy Rishton 12, Chris Peploe 37, Michael Williams 23, Sukhi Kang 8no, Luke Beaven 1no.
To add some flesh to those scores, Carter hit a 6 and 12 4s in his innings, where he faced 158 deliveries, while Morris' 96 came off 155 balls and included 11 boundaries. Peploe faced just 27 deliveries before being run out and Williams scored at a run of ball, only to hit his own wicket.
The captain and Hollman shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 93, and Peploe and Williams added 54 for the seventh wicket, reaching 50 off just 38 balls in 24 minutes.
The defending Western Division champions soon had Shropshire in trouble with a wicket apiece for Rishton, debut-making Callum Creighton - both caught behind by keeper Kang - and Woods.
This left the hosts wobbling at 40-3 and by close of play they had moved on to 55-3 off 23 overs with Will Parton still there on 29 and Alexei Kervezee on 8, so an interesting second day's play certainly looks in prospect.
Bowling figures to date: Rishton 3-0-23-1, Creighton 5-0-11-1, Woods 9-6-4-1, Peploe 6-0-15-0.
