All rugby activity suspended until January.

The RFU recently announced that clubs could move to Stage E of the "Return to Rugby Road Map" allowing teams to take part in an adapted version of the contact game as well as age grade players being able to play tag rugby.

Following a Committee meeting this evening we have decided to suspend all rugby activity at Berwick RFC until the New Year.

We take the safety of our players, coaches, employees and volunteers very seriously. Given that the consequences for anyone catching COVID 19, or being asked to self-isolate this close to Christmas would be significant; this decision aims to ensure that everyone can enjoy their Christmas.

The Committee considered restarting training before the New Year but felt that the potential negative consequences out weigh any potential benefits. Although we are keen to get back to playing and training the club believes we have a duty of care for both players and volunteers and we do not want to jeopardise the health and safety of family and friends. Participants in these training sessions would potentially be mixing with vulnerable members of their families during the relaxed restrictions over Christmas and our main priority must be to keep everyone safe. As we are in the highest control tier we feel it is our responsibility to do what we can to ensure infection rates decrease in our area.

We will review this decision in the New Year and look forward to being able to welcome people back to Scremerston. Our plan, subject to infection rates, is that we will return to training on a phased basis in the New Year starting with the Youth Sections.
