Colts defeat Duns in local derby.

The Colts welcomed Duns to Scremerston for round 4 of the Semi-Junior league.

Duns started brightly retaining possession during the early exchanges albeit they were making little headway.

Callum McGuire bashed up through the Duns midfield breaking the gain line with ease. From the resultant quick ball Ollie Warner released Ollie Warcup who created space for a return pass to Warner who scored under the posts. Connor Duffy kicked the conversion.

Berwick were dominating possession and a scrum on the Duns 22 in a central position was shunted up on the right to allow No8 Scott Black to pick and go. A neat move through the hands followed and full back Ben Geldard joined the line to bundle over for the second try of the afternoon. Duffy again did the honours this time with a fine kick wide on the right.

It was all Berwick now and after a series of pick and goes the backs were again released and Geldard scored his second of the afternoon. This time, the reliable boot of Duffy missed a relatively straight-forward kick for the extras. HT Berwick 19 – Duns 0

The second period was a bit of an anti-climax with most of the game being played in the middle third of the pitch.

That said, stand-in centre Stephen Ainslie charged down a kick by the Duns full back for the only score of the second half.

With the game over as a contest, Duns had their best spell during the last 10 minutes. Despite this, the Berwick lads held out determined not to concede a score. FT Berwick 24 – Duns 0

Despite missing an incredible NINE players again this week the Colts managed to secure back to back wins that will help to build confidence amongst the squad.

Special mention to Callum McGuire and Ben Lawrence who turned out for the Colts following hard school matches in the morning. Big Stu and Mutchy had steady games in the second row as did Chuckle 2 as a make shift centre. However, the man of the match was undoubtedly Lewis Davie in the back row.

Next up, Langholm Colts on the road. The hope is that the Colts will have some of the missing players back next week to bolster the squad.
