Sunday saw Berwick under 14 put out a full team for the first time this season with all players in correct positions and with perfect conditions the scene was set for a competitive game of rugby.
Berwick started the game very quickly with the back row really getting in Novos faces and not allowing them to settle but after Novos had gained some territory they had some big physical forwards who drove over for first try of match. This just caused Berwick to up their game again and really worked hard at contact area and ball retention to work their way up the pitch and when Novos were penalised for handling on ground Rory Hindhaugh took a quick penalty to run through the Novos defence to score a try for the home team which he converted. This then gave the lads some much needed confidence and the time spent on the training ground started to show as they rucked hard, secured ball at scrum and lineout to allow the dangerous back line to really run at Novos and this brought a try for Ben Nicholson with an excellent looping run. Novos then used their physical presence to gain a couple of tries back but Berwick responded with a No 8 pick up try for Alexander Hutton and then when Novos were attacking an excellent tackle and steal from flanker Mason Emery allowed Elliott Gray to run in another try for Berwick which was converted. This was an excellent performance from the Berwick team both in attack and defence with the Berwick Back row being very impressive and Man of the Match has got to go to Flanker Euan Thomson for his outstanding work rate in the loose and defence. Final Score was 24-17 and the boys travel to Ponteland next week in positive mood.
