Berwick Under 14 travelled to Northern on Sunday for the first round of the County Cup they knew that it would be a big task as Northern are one of the strongest teams in area at this age group. It was very apparent from the start that the Northern team was much phsically stronger than Berwick and that we would have to get quick ball from contact to avoid getting involved in a battle. The lads managed to hold them at bay for 12 mins but eventually Northern constantly pushing forward brought the first try of the game and from then on despite Berwicks efforts to keep going it is always difficult to play rugby on scraps and going backwards which allowed Northern to win the game quite easily. Positively the Berwick team never gave up and kept heads held high right to the end fighting for that consolation try but unfortunately the superior physical power of Northern kept them out. They now have a couple of weeks off before taking on Morpeth in a friendly.
