A really interesting morning of rugby played out in this local derby. Players from the two areas' schools, either side of the England and Scotland Border, played a good game at Eyemouth High School in front of a decent crowd and the respective u14 teams waiting for the pitch. Players were playing for their school against their pals from the clu
Although geographically this was a home match for me, myself and Mr Caddick, the Longridge coach were in the away team dug out, looking out for Berwick schools.
Berwick Schools started slowly and with some handling errors. We were also standing looking at rucks and Berwickshire Schools, with a good pack, counter rucked us in the first half. Despite this we found some space out wide and ran in three long range tries after we found our catch and pass abilities and good vision, with no reply. This was no mean feat as Berwickshire schools tackled well. Berwick Schools were also strong defensively and it shows with good leg drive in the tackle and quick line speed, teams start going backwards rapidly.
Credit to Berwickshire Schools who came back into it in the second half with some strong running but it needed a mistake from us to allow them to score in the corner. Overall it was a thoroughly entertaining game for the crowd, a curtain raiser to the Scotland and England games at the RWC this afternoon!
