After the wet and cold weather it was good to see the sun again and despite the slight slope the pitch was almost perfect to play on.
I could feel the anticipation of the team, they wanted some competitive game time and this was provided by the hosts, Knox Academy and credit to Belmont School, Ayrshire for bringing a depleted side all this way to create a round robin format.
Knox had a mix of S1 and 2 so we borrowed 5 or 6 younger u14's to bolster our ages and Belmont brought nine S2's.
I am not going to provide a blow by blow report of the morning due to the number of games, rather I will highlight snippets!!
Firstly, really happy with the contribution from all 31 Berwick players. As mentioned we were desperate to get going with game time again. Maybe sluggish at times with our line speed we allowed the opposition to run at us but individual tackles were solid keeping the opposition at bay. Regardless of who is playing we need to be able to press forward as a line, as a team. Simple pressure by pressing will create doubts in the oppositions' minds if done by everyone.
Going forward off loads and passes into space were pretty decent and we kept the opposition guessing where the point of attack was going to come from. Overall there were very few errors and therefore very few scrums so we can be proud of our skill level. maybe training in the cold and wet does help! Also good to see some previously quieter players finding their feet and putting in a really good shift. With that and some strong individual runs giving us good territory we proved to be the more cohesive unit.
Score in the last game Knox 5 Berwick Schools 10.
Well done, good to be back.
Next week we have games on both Saturday and Sunday, so look forward to training on Wednesday night at LTS sports hall.
