Sunday saw the Under 13’s take to the pitch for the first time in 2012 at home to Blyth. From the Kick Off Berwick showed their will to play competing well at all areas. It wasn’t long into the game before Berwick stole the ball in their own 22 and Mason Emery seen the space and ran ¾ of the pitch with a lung burning run to score. The boys then stuck to their task and moved the ball back up field and once inside Blyths 22 the forwards picked and drove the ball through six phases before Ross Hindmarsh crossed the line who also got Man of The Match for his superb work in the loose.
Blyth then pulled a try back from a well taken penalty catching the Berwick defence unaware. Scrum Half Rory Hindhaugh then made an excellent run showing some great vision to score another back for Berwick. The Under 13 Forwards who were again dominating at the scrum and ruck rumbled the ball back up the pitch and flanker Euan Thompson then seen the space on Blindside to score again. The second half again began with Berwick keen for more and an excellent tackle from Alexander Hutton meant Blyth spilt the ball and Duncan Hardie picked up and went over. Blyth never let their heads go down and came back with another score from their excellent centre. Blyth always tried to attack and some brilliant defence from Aiden Carson tackling well above his weight kept them pinned back and when they were trying to run ball Jamie O’Reilly took a great interception to score again for Berwick. Blyth took a consolation try late on with their forwards driving the ball well to cross the Berwick line. However with Hindhaugh converting 4 of the 6 tries the final score was 38-15. This was a superb display from all the Berwick players
