Berwick Under 13 took on Morpeth at Scremerston on Sunday in near perfect conditions desperate to avenge last weeks disappointment the lads were really fired up for this as Morpeth had beaten them convincingly earlier in season and they wanted to show the progress they have made. The game kicked off and it was very apparent that both teams were going to work hard with some excellent rucking and counter rucking and any runs being made from either side being defended with some excellent tackling especially from the men of the match Alexander Hutton and Aiden Carson.
The game was very tight and it was well in to first half before Berwick got a reward with the backs having made the territory to get them in to the Morpeth 22 the Forwards then had 3 phases of pick and drive before Flanker Mason Emery went over for a well deserved try. Morpeth then upped the tempo and despite some valiant defence from Elliott Gray and Jamie O Reilly they managed to cross the Berwick line twice and converted both times to take a 14-5 lead. The Berwick lads were not for giving up and the last quarter of the match severely pressured Morpeth with both forwards and backs putting on an excellent display and when Morpeth defence was tied in Ben Nicholson saw the space and showed great pace to score for Berwick this led to the last couple of minutes with Berwick frantically attacking the Morpeth line but unfortunately time ran out and final score was 10-14. Despite the defeat this was one of the Berwick Boys best displays of the season with Scrum, Ruck and Line out working well to allow the backs to work with some clean ball.
The match saw real commitment from both sides in what was described by coaches and supporters as an excellent game of rugby showing the progress made in season.
