Berwick travelled to Blyth on Sunday to take part in the Northumberland Plate semi final haven already beaten Blyth home and away this season the boys were full of confidence and from the Kick Off really took the game to Blyth not allowing them any ball. After about 5 minutes of Berwick pressure after some really good rucking from forwards the ball emerged cleanly and Fly Half Thomas Warcup crossed the line to take a 5-0 lead. Blyth then came back at Berwick hard and put more numbers in to their ruck to secure cleaner ball and eventually worked themselves a try to draw level. Just on half time Berwick worked some good position with some excellent runs from Berwick’s Man of the Match Mason Emery and just on half time thought we had got ball driven over but Blyth just managed to hold ball up.
The second half began with Blyth upping the tempo and working hard to secure the ball at breakdown and patiently got into territory to take a try in corner to go 10-5 in lead. Berwick then tried to get back in to game as time was running out but in desperation to get forward Blyth managed to turnover a ball and with an overlap on wing scored another try which they converted to secure the win 17-5.
This was a hard, hard lesson for the Berwick lads and sure they will have learned from it and will come out stronger.
