With a final score of 24 -16 it was a game of three Acts. The beginning - dominated by a penalties that saw Tom "The boot" Barnes win the contest with four which included one 40 yard potshot. Witney who fielded a young side fought hard to resist a strong attack with Bicesters' forwards dominant in almost every area. 12- 6 to Bicester at half time. Act 2 The middle session straddling half time saw Witney put together some good plays particulalry in the backs. Captain Tom Edgar rallied the troops and led by example in defence but two quick tries saw Witney nudge into the lead.16 -12 Act 3 and some tactical substittions paid off with Edgar scoring first thanks to Mad Max's ball carrying that broke through the Witney defence. The second Bicester try courtesy of sub Pat Truby was always on as the backs relentlessly swithched direction. Barnes obliged with a conversion and Bicester took a well deserved victory. A good start and a great game to watch. Bicester fielded some new players particularly good results from former Colts and our new friend from across the pond "American Bob" Henson who shared man of the match with Tom Barnes. Well done boys.
