Welcome to the U12s 2011/12 season at Bicester RUFC. At U12s we build on the exciting changes from U11s, expanding the teams to 13 players through the addition of a #8 in the scrum.
This short newsletter is to provide you with some general information for the start of the season.
We are pleased to announce a further expansion to the coaching team, and the line up is:

Lead Coach this season will be Rupert.
If your child was a member last season there will be a semi-completed membership form printed, and these will be available to collect at pitch side. There will also be blank forms available for new players, and RFU Young Player Registration forms for any players not yet registered with the RFU.
Please note – our objective is to have all subs paid before end September. Only fully paid up members will be allowed to play in matches. Please ensure your child’s subscription fees are paid promptly, so as to avoid disappointment.
It is vital players wear the correct kit. If a player doesn't comply with the 3 requirements below they will not be allowed to play the contact game.
1. Boots must have Rugby studs (rounded aluminium), not football studs or blades.
2. Proper fitting Mouthguard – a custom made mouthguard service is available on Sunday 11th Sept in the clubhouse. Or a universal mouthguard from a Sports shop can be used.
3. Clothing must not contain velcro, zips or any sharp edges or features which could cause injury
Head guards and body armour or padding are up to the individual but might help player confidence. If in any doubt please speak with one of the coaches.
Sunday training sessions start promptly at 10:00am, please ensure your child is ready to start on time. All weekend training sessions will be held at BSA, Ackerman Street, Chesterton and finish at 12:00 noon. After training refreshments are available to purchase in the clubhouse.
After the start of the season, we plan on starting mid-week training on Mondays at Oxford Road. This is partly to help continue to develop the skills of the players, and partly in preparation for the transition to U13s when all training takes place during the week, and weekends are for matches. The coaching team will be discussing these plans with parents in the first few weeks of the season.
Players must be signed in at each training session and fixture. A register will be provided each week for parents to complete. We also ask that when signing in your child, parents also confirm availability for the following week by ticking the relevant box.
Player & Parent Contact Details
It is very important for the coaching team to ensure we have up to date contact details for parents, and advice on any medical needs for your children. Please take the time to check with me the printout of these details for yourselves and your child and advise of any changes.
A fixtures list is attached to this newsletter. The first fixture is Wallingford at home on 9th October. It is important players enjoy and are safe playing Rugby, and to aid this coaching staff believe players at this age group should play in teams of similar ability. This promotes involvement and increases confidence so developing their Rugby skills and gaining the most from the sport. Teams will be selected on ability although the teams will change as player's abilities change. If you have any questions ask a coach.
A simple guide to the U12 laws is available, this will help both players and parents understand the game. It is really important that you spend time reading through the laws with your child, so they fully understand the ways the game is evolving. If you require clarification on any law please ask a coach. It's really important players understand the changes as quickly as possible.
We continue to get excellent use from our match shirts, thanks to our wonderful sponsors, and we will continue to use these this season. A record is kept of all shirts, and if they are needed to be returned there will be a charge of £25 for any non-returned shirts, so please make sure they come back if requested. Plain red training shirts are available for purchase from the kit shop for training.
This section is one of the most important. This age group, like the rest of the club, is run by volunteers who work hard to provide safe and fun Rugby for your children. In addition to coaching and refereeing there are a number of tasks that need to be completed during the season and it's vital parents help out otherwise we risk it being left to one or two people, which I’m sure you will agree is not fair.
So, a rota form for parents, to set out when they can help with the Kitchen and Car Parking Duties will be circulated soon. Your help and support is – as always – key to the success of the club. Last season this worked really well and we hope to build on this success.
Soon, the club will also start planning for the Bicester B Festival which takes place 18th March next year. Once roles are defined, we will be back in touch to let you know what we as an age group can contribute to ensure the success of this important fund raiser for the club.

Under the “Mini” section you will find many details regarding the U12s teams, including fixtures, match reports, photos etc. All parents are encouraged to register with the site and sign up as an “U12s Parent”. You will also be able to post photos etc yourselves.
