In a rearranged County Plate Cup Quarterfinal meeting with Oxford, last years Plate winners, Bicester took the pitch in a determined mood. Right from the kick off Bicester exterted some early pressure and camped in Oxfords half. From an Oxford scrum the ball was won against the head and good handling in the backs gave Tom C a gap which he raced through to score with Dan W landing a good conversion from wide out for Bicester to go 7 - 0 up. Credit to Oxford they came back at Bicester with their right wing going on some good runs that only scrambled defence kept out. On one of these runs he was caught just short of the Bicester line resulting in a lineout 5 yards out. Oxford won the lineout and with a drive forward went over for their first try, 7 - 5. After some good work by both sides Bicester won a ruck just outside their 22 and Josh picking up at the back raced 60 metres through several Oxford tacklers before passing the ball to Cameron H who was up in good support to go over, 12 - 5. Oxford kept pressing but gave away a penalty on the Bicester 22. Bicester decided to run it down the backs and from the subsequent ruck Dan T followed Josh's example and raced 50 metres again breaking several tackles to score under the posts, 17 - 5. This remained the score until half-time.
The second half started with Bicester gaining more ball with good rucking and support play. From a scrum a No.8 pickup and good linking with the backs saw Ben L in at the corner, 22 - 5. Bicester were now getting on top and after a series of phases James made a break and was just caught on the line but was able to pop the ball up to Dan T in support to score, 27 - 5. Oxford tried to come back and Bicester were under pressure for a while, however Bicester cleared their lines and with a kick through stormed up to the Oxford 22 where good support and rucking released the ball and with some good handling the ball went to Josh who drove over, 32 - 5. Bicester showed some indiscipline and gave away a couple of penalties which allowed Oxford to get close to the Bicester line. From a scrum Oxford swung the ball wide for their winger to score, 32 - 10. However Bicester wern't going to let this be the last score and worked their way back up the pitch. From a scrum near to the Oxford line the ball came out to James who ran through to score with Dan W converting, the final score 39 - 10.
A very satisfying performance from the whole Bicester team who showed their fitness to keep going until the end. Some good linking between the backs and forwards with some strong straight running proved the difference on the day. Well done to the whole squad Alfie, Garin, Josh, Tom B, Harrison, Ashley, Max, Dan T, Jamie, Dan B, Ieuan, Ben L, Rhys, Tom C, Benjamin, Cameron H, Dan W, James and Christian.
