Bicester U14’s travelled to Chippy hoping to run the cobwebs out after the last few weather-disrupted weeks. Chippy only had 14 men and so Harrison was lent to play the first half. Bicester started strongly and immediately put Chippy under pressure only for a couple of knock-ons stopping tries being scored. Bicester were continually going forward but their usual hard rucking was lacking allowing Chippy through to disrupt the ball. However it wasn’t long before Bicester got on the scoresheet, from a Chippy lineout the ball was won by Bicester and Josh charged through to score with Dan W just missing the conversion from wide out 5 – 0. It was now all Bicester and they camped in the Chippy half, from another Chippy lineout the ball was again won with the ball being spun down the backs for Dan W to score wide out 10 – 0. Bicester again applied the pressure and looked like running away with the game when near to the Chippy line Ben L intercepted to go over with Dan W converting 17 – 0. Bicester had more chances to score but could not get that final pass to stick, with the score remaining at 17 – 0 at half time.
Bicester rang the changes at half time making 5 changes in the forwards and with Josh going over to play for Chippy. What a different second half we saw with Chippy making good use of some poor tackling by Bicester to run in 4 tries none of which were converted 17 – 20. Bicester suddenly came to life with 10 minutes remaining and started to make some inroads into the Chippy half and only some excellent tackling by Chippy held them out. Final score 17 – 20.
Well played Bicester with a strong first half and then with a change of players that took time to gel, a good run out before our cup semi-final. Squad was Jamie, Alfie, Josh, Ashley, Dan T, Cameron D, Max, Mark, Christian, James, Ben L, Rhys, Tom C, Cameron H, Dan W, Dan B, Adam, Harrison, Tom B, Garin and Ethan. Special thanks to Harrison and Josh who played a half for the opposition, never an easy thing to do but made a game of it.
