Conquering the unknown!

On a bright breezy morning Bicester traveled to Northampton for a first ever fixture with Old Scouts. After a typically enthusiastic warm up the teams took to the pitch for the unknown.

Old Scouts started the more brightly and for the first 10 minutes of the match they were camped inside the Bicester half coming close to opening the scoring but dogged Bicester defence kept Old Scouts out. From a ruck on the Bicester 25m line a loose ball was popped out to Louis who was tackled on the half way line. A quickly recycled ball went down the line to Lewis who outpaced his opposite number to score under the posts which was converted by Dan W. After 20 minutes Old Scouts cleared the ball downfield which Lewis to collected and set off on twisting winding run resulting in his second try of the match in the corner. The tough touchline conversion was missed. 0 - 12.

On 30 minutes Old Scouts were awarded a penalty about 10 yards out for Bicester hands in the ruck from which they scored to make the score 5 - 12 at the break.

Bicester started the second half determined to seal a third consecutive win. After some good forward driving from Ed and George the ball was again quickly recycled and fed down the line for Lewis to beat 4 defenders and again score under the posts for Dan to convert. 5 - 19. From the kick off Bicester's forwards charged back upfield but couldn't break the Old Scouts defence. A spilled ball from a ruck landed at the Old Scouts flyhalf's feet who booted the ball downfield and collected to score under the posts and convert. 12 - 19.

The game went through a scrappy 5 minutes before another quick ball to Lewis resulted in his fourth of the game in the corner. A good conversion effort was narrowly missed. 12 - 24.

Rhys had to leave the pitch on 30 minutes with cramp for the versatile Adam to fill in at centre. A loose clearance kick from Bicester resulted in a breakaway Old Scouts try. 17 - 24.

With a minute left on the clock another clearance kick was collected by the Old Scouts left wing who evaded a number of tackles before being bundled into touch by Christian 2 yards short of the line. Final score Old Scouts 17 - 24 Bicester

Another good team performance which again demonstrated the great spirit within the squad!!
