Report by our tallest Venning Correspondent - Mats Venning Great game played in a fantastic spirit

This was a good game of rugby that saw a reversal of the result against Bedford at the beginning of the season.

Bicester were clearly up for this game and showed it in the opening stages with a good chase and early pressure from an excellent kick off by Mats Venning. Soon the pressure told and after a quick tapped penalty Irfan went over in the corner to score a good try on debut. Ben Jenks converted well.

Straight from the restart Bicester played some good attacking rugby and made good ground past the gain line with the forwards winning good quick ball. A good move on the outside saw Will Brett Harding racing down the wing, however he was held just short of the line but Mats was there to score the second try off the morning.

After a brief spell of pressure from Bedford which we defended well Bicester were back down in the Bedford line 10 metres out. Some good strength by George Myers gained some metres and then Mats picked and dummied pirouetting around the last defender to score his second. Ben Jenks converting again. Ed Mawdsley got our next try after some good pressure by Jack at flanker charging down their clearance kick and then Ed gathering and falling over the line. This was good reward for once again all the pressure we were putting them under.
Going into half time we were 24-0 up and playing well.

The second half saw much of the same as the 1st with good early pressure. Some good distributing by Isaac and hands by Harry and Callum nearly saw Anthony Armstrong in for his 1st try but an unfortunate fumble which was gathered by their winger saw the 1 st Bedford try under the posts. Bicester started to get a little edgy and some loose play enabled Bedford to get some possession and territory for the first time in the game. However we held them out with good defending from Will and James G at full back. However once again our hands let us down and a dropped pass by Cammy enabled their centre to kick through and score. Bedford were coming back into it and gaining confidence and their strong fly half intercepted on half way and sprinted in to score another try under the posts. 24-21.

Our nerves were soon calmed however when James G broke through after playing one of his best games of the season and then outpaced the covering full-back to score near the posts. However the conversion was missed. 29-21. We then saw the game out and were very happy to come away with a win against a good Bedford side.

Well played lads.

Hopefully Images to be added by George!
