A Robert Hobbs goal five minutes from time knocked Bideford out of the FA Trophy on Saturday at Frome Town.
Not too unlike last week at Slimbridge, The Robins put in a decent performance but were left to rue a host of missed chances which ultimately cost them the game.
There were two debuts in midfield for Aaron Goulty and Domenico Panesar-Dower as Sean Joyce was forced into more squad changes in what has been a really unsettled couple of months for the club.
Bideford were undoubtedly the better side in the first half and really should've been comfortably ahead by half time. Ben Carter forced a good save from Robert Brown with a low driven shot and Ryan Turner dragged a shot wide before The Robins took the lead in the 15th minute. Theo Simpson pulled the ball back to Max Smallcombe on the edge of the box who directed a shot beautifully into the top right corner. It was Smallcombe's first goal since his return to the club.
Frome had gone close with a Sam Teale header and a scrambled effort from Kane Simpson but it was Bideford carving out the big chances. Ben Palmer put a free header from a corner wide and Goulty managed to dig out a shot from 12 yards that Brown did well to parry over.
Brown then made an error in presenting the ball to Theo Simpson on the left who found Turner on the edge of the area but he flashed a low shot wide when he really should've done better. Brown saved again from Carter as did Kingston from Kane Simpson at the other end as the game reached half time.
As much as Bideford were on the front foot in the first half, the same must be said of Frome in the second period. Kingston saved again from Simpson early in the half but a glorious chance went begging for Bideford on the hour. A poor header back was pounced upon by Theo Simpson but he was unable to lift his effort beyond the advanced Brown on the edge of the box.
Bideford were made to pay less than two minutes later as Kingston palmed away Martin Lenihan's cross-cum-shot but Matt Smith was on hand to slam the ball home. The momentum was now fully with the home side. Chris Peck was just wide at the near post after getting in from the left and Kingston denied Kane Simpson once again low down at his near post.
The Robins survived a huge scare in the 84th minute as Hobbs fired a golden chance inches over the angle of post and bar when unmarked on the edge of the box. However the same player made amends a minute later to coolly lift the ball over Kingston to end a super passing move and put his team into the next round of the FA Trophy.
