Bideford vs Cullompton Rangers
Devon St Luke’s Challenge Cup Quarter Final
Tuesday 13th January 2025
7:45pm kick off
The Persimmon Homes Sports Ground, Bideford
Bideford continue their defence of the Devon St Luke’s Cup with a quarter final tie against Cullompton Rangers of the South West Peninsula League.
Cullompton are led by former Bideford assistant manager Richard Pears and are currently 5th in Premier Division East. Cully also have former Robins players Lewis Hill, Josh Coles and Fin Newell in their attack who will all be looking to impress at the Sports Ground tonight.
The East Devon side proved their capabilities in the first round of the competition by beating a full strength Barnstaple side at Mill Road 2-1 back in September, then picked up a 1-0 win at Ivybridge in round two who also play a level higher.
Sean Joyce is likely to make changes to his line-up tonight with one eye on an important league game against Didcot on Saturday. However, Bideford will still be keen to retain the trophy they won by defeating arch-rivals Barnstaple back in May. The Robins are seven times holders of the Devon Bowl, a record only surpassed by Tiverton Town.

A Brief History of Cullompton Rangers FC
Cullompton Rangers were founded in 1945 where they began playing in the East Devon Victory League, then the Exeter & District League (later known as the Devon & Exeter Football League). Cullompton were crowned champions in 1961/62 and again in 1963/64 before a turn in fortunes saw them relegated from the Premier Division in 1966/67. Another relegation followed but the club bounced back as Division Two champions in 1972/73, and Division One champions in 1978/79. In 1993, Cully were founding members of the Devon County League where they were twice runners-up in the late 90’s and winners of the Devon Premier Cup in 1999. The club were founder members of the new South West Peninsula League in 2007 and currently play in the Premier Division East, level 10 of the English Football League system.
