This Saturday Bideford face their toughest fixture of the season as they take on heavy league title favourites Hereford at Edgar Street.
Hereford are a phoenix club that came into being after Hereford United were dissolved in December 2014. They continue to play at Edgar Street and re-entered the English football league system in 2015/16 competing in the Midland League Premier Division (level nine).
Hereford United were founded in 1924 and joined the Birmingham & District League in 1928 where they played until joining the Southern League in 1939/40. In 1958/59 Hereford United were crowned champions of the Southern League North West Division and gained promotion to the Premier Division. After five years in the Premier they were relegated but bounced right back winning the Division One title. Hereford spent a further seven years in the Premier Division and in 1971/72 finished as runners-up and were promoted to the Football League. That same season they gained national exposure with one of the greatest FA Cup upsets of all time beating top-flight Newcastle United in the third round. The next season Hereford finished as runners-up in Division Four and were promoted. Just three years later they were Division Three champions and gained promotion to Division Two (known these days as The Championship) but were relegated after just one season at that level. Another relegation followed the next season and Hereford would compete in the fourth tier of English football between 1978 and 1997 (note: Division Four was renamed Division Three in 1992 after the birth of the Premier League). In 1996/97 Hereford finished bottom of Division Three and dropped back into non-league football for the first time in 25 years. They made their return to the Football League after finishing 2nd in 2005/06 and beating Halifax in the Conference Play-Off Final. In 2007/08 Hereford finished third in League Two (the fourth tier formerly known as Division Three) and were promoted to League One but were relegated back after one season. In 2011/12 they were relegated to the Conference and after finishing 20th in 2013/14 Hereford were expelled from the league due to financial irregularities. They were accepted into the Southern League Premier Division for 2014/15 but did not complete the season. The club was wound-up in the High Court in December 2014.
Soon after the Hereford United Supporters Trust began working on starting a new phoenix club called Hereford Football Club. Hereford returned to action in 2015/16 in the Midland League Premier Division. As expected they sailed through the season winning the league with a points total of 108. They also reached the FA Vase final at Wembley but lost 4-1 to Morpeth Town. With the finances now available to them and a large fan base, Hereford are expected to be back in the National League (formerly Conference) in no time.

Form Guide
Hereford are in excellent league form and currently sit top of the league unbeaten (W12 D2 L0). So far only Tiverton Town and Didcot Town have been able to take a point from them. They have however been knocked out of the FA Cup by Tonbridge Angels and the FA Trophy by Salisbury.

Bideford's form has improved with only one defeat in their last six. Despite being disappointed to have only taken a point from home games against Larkhall and Paulton, Bideford have won their last two away games at Yate and Wimborne. It's a big ask but The Robins will be hoping to make it three out of three on the road before returning to the Sports Ground to take on Barnstaple in the Southern League Cup on Tuesday night.
