Bideford threw away a two goal lead and came away from Slimbridge empty handed thanks to an injury time winner on Saturday.
In a game not too dissimilar to the last season’s corresponding fixture in April, The Robins looked off the pace in the second half and the home side were able to take full advantage. The first half however was a different story with Bideford having the better of it and they took the lead after 10 minutes through Kevin Squire’s 101st goal for the club. Squire was able to capitalise on a poor back pass to slot past Slimbridge keeper Eric Edge from a tight angle. Squire then made it 2-0 just past the half hour mark finishing at the back post from Ryan Turner’s low cross. Slimbridge were back in it six minutes later as Will Hawes was able to force the ball home after an almighty goalmouth scramble.
The home side put the tiring Robins under pressure in the second half and got their reward in the 75th minute. Max Harper-Emerson’s looked for Dean Turner with a cross from the left but the ball was turned into his own net by the unlucky Craig Allan. It looked like Bideford would hold out for a draw until the 91st minute when Harper-Emerson blazed down the left and unleashed a strike which found the far corner to complete the turnaround and leave The Robins with much to think about ahead of the trip to Bristol Manor Farm on Tuesday night.
