STRATFORD TOWN 3 v BIGGLESWADE TOWN 2 Report by Mike Draxler

Now we know that the play-offs have slipped from our grasp this season and that the mythical lady has started to sing. BUT and as you know there is always a but, we should and can be immensely proud of the way the Waders have set the foundations for the next campaign. Lee, Brett, Eddie and Charlie have learnt hard and fast this season achieving a worthy position in this difficult division. The backroom staff, all to be thanked, for their efforts adjusting to the very different style the new team management.

So it was to Stratford for a do or die fixture. 40 down and it all rests on one. Both teams felt the heat, not only from the very welcome sun but the pressure of the occasion. Mistakes and nerves showed early as both teams struggled to settle. Chances were few but the count went Waders way as Matt Ball and Shaun Lucien both tested the home keeper. For Stratford only Aaron Birch but with his shot clearing the stand no worries for Sam Donkin. The goal came on 40 minutes as Matt Ball connected with Shaun Lucien, for Sean to fire home what is fast becoming his trademark from tight angles. A great time to score as the half time break beckoned.

Out for the second period and it was all change. Hope rising for the travelling support as the Waders kept Stratford at bay for 20 minutes, letting them create nothing. But and as.... On 68 the wheels came off as a long ball punted forward from the home keeper eluded all bounced high and somehow Stratford 9 Michael Taylor got his boot to it to equalise. 73 and Waders concede a penalty which Wilson Carvalho converted. The game over on 85 as another mistake presented Dan Creany with an opportunity to volley in from the edge of the box. Although Biggleswade got a very late penalty a 3-2 score line was reflective of the overall game. Tough to take, of course but just reflect back over the past eight months: much to savour and be proud of. Up the Waders.

Next up Rushall at the Langford Road kick off 1500 hours.
