Helmets are Mandatory for All in Sweden

Helmets are Mandatory for All in Sweden

Lisa Brooke21 Jun 2016 - 09:15

Swedish officials state that helmets and cycling protective gear are mandatory for the safety of the future generations ahead.

Saving lives, and ensuring that each and every cyclist is safe are the plans of the Swedish Federation. Not only are they essentially making helmets mandatory, but they are signing an agreement with POC to ensure that their efforts do not go unnoticed or ignored throughout the country. The agreement aims to cut back on the amount of fatalities that happen throughout the country due to cycling related incidents, while also educating cyclists on the dangers associated with cycling without the proper gear.

The Agreement Signed

The agreement shows that the Swedish government is making cycle helmets, bike gear and other products mandatory for one and all to wear to keep everyone safe while out on the roads. Whether they are a child, or someone that is older; these road bike helmets are able to save lives and hopefully reduce the numbers of incidents caused by not wearing the proper protective gear.

Swedish cycling federation teams using POC products have already seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of incidents that occur while on the bikes. This also shows that the rest of the country can also benefit from using these safety devices while on their bikes, whether they are cycling in tournaments or around the corner to grab groceries from the market.

The government is very happy to be partnering with POC, since they are known for their innovations, safety standards and high quality products; the Secretary General of Sweden is happy to announce these new rules and regulations, plus the partnership that they are hoping to make should be a lifelong benefit for the residents living throughout the country, young and old.

Cycling Technology Can Help to Save Lives

A guide to cycling technology can help one and all find the necessary tools, such as bike helmets, that can be essential to saving lives, but also allow them to enjoy cycling to the fullest. This type of technology continues to expand and grow within the cycling market, making it one of the biggest and safest industries. However, with current laws allowing cyclists to wear whatever they wish while cycling, the incidents related to injuries and deaths for those cyclists not following safety procedures have been on a rise.

In an effort to stop this, multiple technologies, such as newly advanced helmets and cycling gear, provide the cyclist with a way to protect themselves if they end up off of the bike, or to be seen when the sun is setting, and they are still cycling down the roadways. These products are essentially there to help save lives, but also provide the cyclist with a way to further their interest in a hobby that keeps them going.

Cycling Towards a Better Future

Providing an example for the youth that is up and coming, and also who enjoy cycling can be done through proper safety procedures practiced by adults. These helmets and other safety measures are going to be put in place until 2018 when the agreement will be revisited and then revised based on the findings. This should put many cyclists in a safer position to ride to their many preferred destinations. POC can then provide the protective gear required to ensure that they are protected.

It has been shown in Sweden, recently over 500 children were taken to hospitals due to head injuries from riding bicycles without the use of helmets or other protective devices. The helmet agreement that is being enacted can not only cut these numbers in half or more, but also give parents peace of mind to have their child cycling out in the driveway without having to worry about serious head injuries happening. Not only that, but hundreds of adults were also taken into hospitals with head injuries due to cycling incidents over the years, causing even more debate on whether or not helmets are a necessary safety precaution that should be taken by one and all when cycling.

Through the use of this new agreement and law put into motion, adults and children will start to see a decrease in the number of head injuries seen in hospitals, as well as other incidents that occur from improper use of safety products while operating a bicycle. Through the agreement, everyone is able to have a healthier outlook on the future, while also decreasing the amount that is spent within hospitals every year due to the decreasing amount of head injuries, other injuries and fatalities due to poor safety restrictions while cycling.

Whether or not this new agreement will be taken into consideration is up for debate. However, the hopes are that it will reduce the amount of cyclists injured or killed in cycling related incidents throughout the country. Through this safety measure, and the requirement of the highest in quality standards for the products used, they are hoping to educate and save lives, one at a time for a brighter, better future overall.
