Unfortunately this is another lay off from league rugby as Redcar's difficult season continues and they are unable to field a team. That doesn't however mean that it is a rugby free weekend and it gives us another chance to test ourselves against higher league opposition. Last week we gave a good account of ourselves against Rovers who are currently sitting 2nd in Candy league 2 and also bolstered by a couple of 1st team players (1 of which scored their hat trick) and the feedback was that you would much prefer to play in a game like this and lose than win by 60+ points and gain nothing from it. So it is thanks to Bishop Auckland 2nds who have agreed to visit us at Greenwood road, Bishop have had a difficult start to the year, currently sitting bottom of candy 2 and winless. They will see this as an opportunity to get a morale boosting win under their belts to get them kick started. It is our place to make sure that doesn't happen. We will have a number of regular faces missing however that will give me the chance to try out some new faces in new positions.
We aren't the only team playing though and there is a great prequel in store. The colts are hosting last years national champs Tynedale in an 11:45 ko, the way the young guns are playing at the moment they should fear nobody and I am sure they would love a big crowd down to cheer them on if possible.
The games are rounded off with the 1st XV hosting Kirkby Lonsdale, last season it was honours even with 1 game apiece so a little of a grudge match and with them sitting 7th in the table we can expect a tough contest. We aren't joint top of the league for no reason however and if they want to turn us over and take our unbeaten home record then they will have to bring something pretty special to the party.
With the lions travelling to Durham to play their Saracens it is another Saturday with 4 senior teams turning out in the green and white so let's end it with beers and bragging rights
