Age Grade (Mini & Junior) Section 1 of 5

1. Welcome

WELCOME TO BIRMINGHAM & SOLIHULL RFC’S AGE GRADE (MINI&JUNIOR) SECTION

This is your hub of information for Bees age grade (M&Js) section. There are more pages on the left hand side which will hopefully have everything you require, but if not don’t hesitate to us contact through Peter Carr, Head of Age Grade Rugby, by email. See the Contact page. Note: As at February 2022 this is interim content awaiting a more extensive revision.
We have been running an age grade section for over 30 years now and have established a reputation as one of the biggest and most successful sections in the area. This reputation has been built on the back of an all-inclusive philosophy and high quality coaching.

PLAYING RUGBY

Playing youth rugby is broken down into 4 stages; minis (U7-8), midis (U9-12), junior (U13-U17) and colts (U18s). The correct age group for your child is determined by their age on 31st August at the beginning of each season. So if your child is 8 on that date, then they will play in the under 9s. The RFU Rules of Play for each age group can be found in RFU Regulation 15. Where there are new rules of play, these have been adopted by the Club. The mini stage is all about having fun & developing the core skills of running, passing and evasion by playing tag rugby. Tackling, scrums and lineouts are progressively introduced from U9. The full game of rugby is introduced from U13. Girls are welcome up to the age of 11.

COACHING

Our coaches have undertaken RFU accredited coaching courses appropriate to their age group and are all are CRB checked.
