however it was clear that all heads were switched on from the moment they arrived at the pitch. With only 11 players available and no subs Birstall knew that this would be a hard fought contest and so it proved at the start.
Strong running from Harry Siepker and Callum Aston set the platform for Birstall to allow William Wilkinson and Jayden Walker to cross for a try each. The confidence was oozing from Birstall and when Max Grinhaff hit a line to crash over and score, Birstall’s dominance was clear to see. A near perfect first half performance was sealed when Jake Hartley, whose ball distribution throughout the game was excellent, bamboozled Dewsbury Moor’s defence with some clever footwork to cross the line and touchdown.
The second half started the way the first half ended when a barnstorming run from Ethan Barnes paved the way for Wilkinson’s 2nd, however the game’s magic moment came soon after when Mackenzie Sheldrake showed fancy footwork and blistering speed to run in a length of the field try.
Jack Dawson showed class playing in a new position at hooker, his game management was flawless and it was his pass that enabled Dalton Healy, who again showed great footwork, to go over and add his name to the score sheet .
Dewsbury Moor never gave up the fight and were rewarded with a try late on from Adam Amjal, who also picked up the Birstall Victoria Opposition MOM for his outstanding efforts.
For Birstall Victoria, the game was built on hard work and this was typified by Bradley John who topped the tackle count and was non-stop both in attack and defence. Man of Steel award went to Jayden Walker as he proved a nightmare to stop, William Wilkinson was recognised by the parent’s award for his try double and excellent defence and Mackenzie Sheldrake picked up the Oppositions award for his lightening fast speed out of dummy half. The outstanding player of the match was Dalton Healy who picked up MOM, not only for his speed in attack but his reliable defensive effort against Dewsbury Moor’s pace on the outside.
All in all a dominant performance by Birstall Victoria from start to finish, onwards and upwards....Final Score: Birstall Vic 40 : 6 Dewsbury Moor
