Birstall visited the Leeds Sports Centre where Leeds Rhinos Foundation hosted a touch rugby festival for the 2016 under 11 age group. Birstall were joined by fellow ambassador clubs Drighlington, Farnley Falcons, Hunslet Warriors and North Leeds Leopards.
Fielding two teams of 5 players, Birstall reaped the rewards. It enabled the players to further develop skills such as passing and evasion in addition to working together as a team.
The “A” team were victorious in all 4 of their games and did not concede a try. The “B” team won 1, drew 2 and lost 1.
Both sides worked collectively, showing excellent teamwork. There was some fantastic footwork when attacking, in addition the ball handling and swift offloading. In defence the players showed good awareness and had great line speed to restrict the attack.
At the end of the festival the players were treated to a Q&A with Leeds Rhinos Stevie Ward and awarded certificates for their outstanding efforts.
