Birstall had been working hard in training on defence and they showed great progress with this during the game. Led by Cameron and Billy, the team working together were able to put in to practise the new skills learned. This was evident in the after match awards when the whole side were awarded the best opponent award for their defence.
In attack Birstall posted three tries in the first half. Jamie and Brandon provided a good position with drives that enabled Verne to kick off the scoring with a try from 35 meters out. He spotted a gap in the Farnley line and used a good step to create a bigger gap and dashed through.
Thomas got the sides second try following a fantastic move which started off with Jack bringing the ball out his own half. Thomas and Harry exchanged offloads up the field before Thomas evaded the defence to score.
Jack went over for the third try of the half after a dummy pass caught the Farnley defence out and he was able to create the space to run through.
Thomas kicked all three goals.
HALF TIME
After the restart Aaron put in an attacking kick which created an opportunity for Harry A to pounce on and score.
It was Thomas and Harry who combined again for the next score, posting a similar try to the one in the first half, with Thomas again going over for the try.
Harry A then added to his earlier try with two further scores. The first came off a quick play of the ball where Cohan found a good pass and the second off the back of a good run and good footwork.
Thomas kicked all four goals in the second half to give him a total of 7 from 7.
