in a game that wasn't always played in the best of spirits. Parents, Players and Coaches MOM Brandon Dyson opened the scoring after a bulldozing run saw him crash over under the posts.
Birstall's next try came from elusive centre Jacob Fozard after Ibby Rashid and Farhaan Sarwar had made big inroads into the Upton defence. Fullback Matty Ward was in great form for Birstall, fielding the high ball and returning it with some effect and it was Ward who was next to cross after an excellent break from lively half back Ben Ward who beat 3 defenders and handed on to Matty and he in turn sprinted clear to the line.
On the stroke of half-time the mercurial Kane Bedford put a pinpoint kick to the corner for Ashaan Newell to pounce and give the home side a 22-0 lead. Birstall continued their dominance in the second stanza when Kane Bedford powered his way to the line after great work from Strong running Jack Lawford and hard working wingman Aaron Clough.
Upton did put some points on the board, but this just spurred Birstall on and it was most improved player Callum Roberts who put the game to bed with a tremendous individual effort, dummying and side-stepping his way to the line.
Birstall were put under pressure soon after, but James Colleran, Zak Knowles and Matthew Goodwill stood firm in defence. The Vic's last try came courtesy of Bedford, again after a great break from impressive centre Zayne Cloete who fed Ward and after a quick play the ball Alex Hollingworth scampered from dummy half, handed on to Bedford who raced 50 metres for a great score.
Roberts kicked his 5th goal of the day to give Birstall the win and keep them at the top of the League.
