It's a second trip down to Billingham in the space of seven days this Saturday for Birtley as we look for a better scoreline than in our previous visit during our FA Vase exit last Saturday at the hands of Billingham Town. This time we face Billingham Synthonia who were relegated from the first division last season and are currently managed by former Middlesbrough midfielder Jamie Pollock.
A poor start to their campaign saw them not pick up maximum points until their final game of the month, a 2-1 win against Easington Colliery with both goals coming in the final half hour of the game. Since that game, a 0-0 draw against Tow Law Town was followed up by a 2-2 draw away to Willington where a 92nd minute equaliser from Kallum Hannah was needed to come away with a point. A 5-0 against Crook Town followed last Saturday before they exited the FA Vase at the same stage as us, losing 3-1 to Hebburn Town who we faced on Tuesday evening in the Durham Challenge Cup.
Synthonia currently sit in 15th place with eight points from their seven games and are one of just four teams to have only played that amount. Birtley, having played two games more, sit in sixth place on fifteen points. Striker Kallum Hannah tops their goal scoring charts with eight goals, four ahead of the nearest competitor, midfielder Ben Pollock.
Sitting the game out for Birtley will be centre half Michael Dodds who starts a three game ban for his red card against Billingham Town. For Synners, Ryan Grier and Nico Weatherald both start three game bans for their red cards in the 2-2 draw against Willington.
The postcode for the ground is TS20 1PE and entry is £6 for Adults and £3 for Concessions. There will also be one U16 admitted for every paying Adult. The home crowd is anticipated to be another strong one so any away support would be greatly appreciated.
