Cleeve post excellent last game performance.

Cleeve welcomed an Olveston Side who harboured ambitions to finish runner-up.

Following the very disappointing performance which saw Cleeve crash out of the cup on penalties the previous Sunday...we knew that we would have to be on the top of our game to match one of the best sides in the league.

We started well and took the lead 2 mins in when Leonie threaded a through ball to Belle who rounded the goalkeeper and passed into the empty net. Cleeve then absolutely dominated the game for the next 35 mins....it was by far some of the best football that the team have played all season... the passing was good, accurate and at pace.... the closing down was excellent and Olveston were unable to cope. We created 3 or 4 gilt edged chances which we failed to take... and once again we knew (as like last week), that if you don't take your chances good teams will regroup and come back into the game.

HT: 1-0.

With Olveston knowing that only a win would do, we knew that they would come out fighting from the second half whistle. This is what happened .. they started to get hold of the ball and although on top created very little until 60th minute.. Cleeve failed to deal with a cross and a miss-kicked clearance fell into the path of the Olveston player 8 yrds out who couldn't fail to score . 1-1 . The travelling supporters found their voice the Twitter feed came alive and Olveston were on the up. Olveston seeking a second hit the post with a long range effort and shortly afterwards, following a good passing movement the Olveston player scored with a firmly hit shot over the top of the Cleeve Keeper. 1-2......so with 15 minutes to go the runner-up spot was theirs.

The second goal seemed to galvanize the Cleeve players and once again we got on top of the game with the Olveston keeper making an excellent save from a long range Immy O'Brien effort. With 8 mins to go all of the good work by the goalkeeper was undone when she unfortunatly fumbled a corner into her own net. 2-2. Cleeve were now the team on top very nearly won the game when somehow the ball defied the law of physics and spun back out of the goal when it looked at thought it would nestle in the Olveston net for a Cleeve winner.

FT 2-2.

All in all an excellent performance, against a side likely to gain promotion to the South West Region along with Pucklechurch next season.

We have proved on occasions that we can hold our own with the big teams in the league.... the 4-4 draw with eventual Runners-up Longwell Green, when we deserved more was the playing highlight, closely followed by the first half against Olveston today. We beat and finished ahead of Gloucester City which given the media frenzy and player recruitment surrounding them this year was no mean feat.

We didn't have anyone nominated in any of the Severn Sport teams of the season, we never featured in any of their live match-day commentaries.. but we must have done something right as a team.... so well done everyone.

For team of youngsters with a smattering of senior experience playing at this level for the first time we did exceptionally well this year.... could we have done better.....Yes of course... but that will come with experience.

Well done all.
