Cleeve Ladies welcomed Longwell Green ( Currently top of Div 1, unbeaten in 4 fixtures and who had only conceeded 1 goal!) to the bottom pitch at Kayte Lane.
We stressed prior to kick off the importance of making it difficult for the opposition, making them work for their opportunities...
We started brightly and should have scored in the first two mins. after that it all were pear shaped. In a calamitous first 30 mins we conceeded 6 goals...!!!! Was it because Longwell Green played some exceptional football at a level we just can't live with? Was there movement and exceptional passing a joy to Behold? Did they conjour up some worldy finishes which the crowd could just stare in amazement? No... NO and NO. Defensively as team team we were naive. We didn't challenge well enough, we didn't compete and we conceeded Six really poor goals!
We rallied at the end of the first half and Lauren finished well when put through and Leonie rifled one in from 25 yards into the top corner.
HT 2-6
The second half was much better, we challenged better and were the better team.....but we were not able to add to the goal tally.
FT 2-6
I know no-one ever goes onto the pitch wanting to put in a poor performance.....but we must get the mindset right before each game and apply everything we need to do in order to give our best. For whatever reason today in the first 30 mins were were lacking. We need to learn quickly in order to avoid another potential drubbing next week against Pucklechurch!
Lets hope that the pitch is in better condition next week..... it wasn't great and it is likely to become worse as the season goes on .....some work needs to be done...even it is just a cut and roll!
