It was a game of two halves as a historic appearance in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy ended in disappointment for the Mitres

In the seventh minute Ross Langworthy received the ball unmarked 5 yards out but saw his shot well saved by Kyle Phillips in the Frome goal before Will Turner had to make a superb goal-line clearance from Jon Davies’ strike.

A nice passing move by the visitors then saw Reeve Rusher fire a shot just over the bar before Toby Holland’s long range effort for the hosts was easily gathered up.

Even though the visitors were shading the match Cleeve were by no means out of it and probably should have scored just before the half hour when Langworthy was through but his cross/shot drifted wide of the goal.

Cleeve then nearly took the lead through Jay Malshanskyj but his shot was deflected and the deflection went agonisingly behind Langworthy before Holland played a long through ball for Langworthy who couldn’t quite get the ball out from under his feet meaning the shot was at the ‘keeper. Ben McLean than blasted just over from 20yds as the hosts started to put some pressure on.

The hosts then took the lead on the stroke of half time when Jay Malshanskyj powered through the middle and calmly slotted into the bottom corner in what was Cleeve’s first ever goal in the FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round.

Kane Simpson then equalised for the visitors early in the second half as the ball found him in the box and he blasted it in on the turn.

Simpson then nearly doubled his tally on the counter after Holland saw his shot well saved at the near post but he did get his and Frome’s second shortly afterwards as he volleyed in.

The visitors had control on the hour mark as, after a good advantage by the referee, Jon Davies put through Zac Drew who rounded Clayton to convert.

Malshanskyj then blazed over from the edge of the box for Cleeve as the hosts looked to get back into the match but it was again after a spell of Cleeve play that Frome went down the other end and scored, this time with James Ollis

Jon Davies then made it 5-1 for the visitors who progressed to the next round in style.
