Bishops Cleeve resume their Emirates FA Cup campaign with the visit of Pitching In Southern League Division One South side Wimborne Town on Saturday, in a reversal of a pre-season friendly played at the start of August.
The 15:00 kick-off at the Everyone’s Energy Kayte Lane Stadium sees Paul Collicutt’s side set out to better the friendly’s result as Wimborne Town came out 2-1 winners at the Wyatt Home Stadium on the second of August. The previous competitive meeting between the two clubs came back in December 2023, when the Magpies won 1-0 courtesy of Sam Griffin’s second-minute strike in front of 693 fans.
Ross Langworthy scored twice last time we hosted Wimborne with the Mitres 2-1 up at the break, but a late flurry from the away side saw five different scorers seal an opening day win for the eventual title winners.
The visitors enter the competition at the first qualifying round stage, playing their maiden game of this cup campaign today, while the Mitres earned their place with a 4-0 preliminary qualifying round victory at Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division side Hallen AFC on the 16th of August. Ben McLean, Lewis Spurrier, Jack Watts and Jake Lee found the net in the second half after the hosts put up a stern fight in the first 45.
Wimborne are undefeated since their opening day defeat at Basingstoke, beating Havant & Waterlooville and Weymouth with draws against Farnham Town and Uxbridge to tot up a tally of eight points from five games. Cleeve’s early-season form has been far better, with a win in every single game so far; the Mitres sit top of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South with four wins from four in the league, accompanying the FA Cup win at Hallen.
Tickets for the match are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions, and £3 for Under 14s. Kick-off is 15:00 with gates open from 13:30.
