Despite promising moments from the Bishops Cleeve side, it was yet again another home loss for the Mitres as they fell 2-1 to Bideford AFC

Bideford scored in both halves as Aaron Taylor and Joseph Charles added their name to the scoresheet while it was Shayne Anson for Cleeve in the 45+4 who leveled it going into the break.

The Mitres were not clinical today and had a multitude of chances that were not put away, several close corners and hitting the woodwork upwards of four times tells the story of Cleeve’s day

The biggest miss from the home side came in the 65th minute when Isaac Pearce should have given them the lead but missed the target from directly In front of net.

The Robins had set up early to play defensive football and it was working, the Mitres had the best chances early on but were unable to convert. Cleeve looked dangerous pushing forward throughout the pitch, a positive they can take away from today’s game.

Although by the 11th minute, Bideford took the lead, when a shot deflection off Joe Jeremiah forced a corner, from said resulting corner the ball is whipped in where Adam Hill headed it to Joseph Charles who finished it past Lewos Clayton.

Bishops Cleeve did well to rebound and continued to push up the pitch well, but with still no results. For the rest of the half the Cleeve defense is only challenged a couple times, and Clayton is only forced into making one save.

A crunching tackle is made on Pearce but no foul is called much to the players surprise, beforehand the referee had been given a lot of fouls and yellows, as Pearce received a booking just two minutes prior for a much calmer tackle.

While on the other end of the pitch, a crossbar hit from George Box after a well taken shot, that just rises a bit too much before hitting the post in the 45th minute off a Jeremiah header, meant Cleeve were inches away from an equaliser at times.

This led to Anson’s goal in injury time of the first half, as a cross is put into the box, he collected an Adam Seedhouse-Evans parry and finished well into the bottom corner.

Coming out for the second half once again the Mitres did look the better team but didn’t create any clear cut chances besides the Pearce miss in the 65th, that was until the Robins took the lead again in the 70th through a Taylor goal that was taken very well into the bottom right.

A change to the Cleeve attack after the goal when Jordan Annear came on for Pearce provided a needed rejuvenation to the side, but still not goal would come. Their closest chance of the remaining period would fall to Jack Watts, who to his credit had a very well taken shot, just did not dip enough for it to beat the crossbar.

Captain Archie Haskayne let his frustrations show as the game died down when he put in a hard sliding challenge in the 90th minute, where he was lucky to escape with only a yellow. From then on the Mitres sturggled to see the opposition goal, as the Bideford side put the game to bed as they held possession.
