Mitres fans get much needed present on Boxing Day

3-1 was again the winning scoreline but the Mitres were made to work for it. Despite having their chances they fell 1-0 down as half time approached with Ethan Dunbar tapping in a low fired cross to give the hosts the lead at half time.

With the hosts looking content to hold the lead, Cleeve took control of the match but were struggling to find that finishing touch.

As the game went into the final quarter of an hour the hosts looked like they were going to keep out the Cleeve onslaught and even looked like they could extend the lead on the break. However the Slimbridge resilience was broken when sub Sam Blackie slid in Ross Langworthy who himself slid stretching for the ball, managing to slot it past the ‘keeper into the net.

Six minutes later, the Mitres had the chance to take the lead when Joe Jeremiah’s tenacity saw him bundled over in the area and a penalty was awarded. Langworthy stepped up and made no mistake to give Cleeve the lead with six minutes to go.

From then on it always looked like Cleeve would win and they sealed it in stoppage time when Archie Haskayne fed through Langworthy who battled well to get the shot away and seal his hattrick

Cleeve’s next match is another local derby at home to Evesham on Monday 2nd January, KO 3pm
