Mitchel Beardman’s brace helped Tavistock come from behind to beat Bishop’s Cleeve 3-1 at Crowndale.

Report by Paddy Gladman

The Mitres got off to the best possible start in the 5th minute, when Ethan Dunbar was on call to smash home into an empty net; following Rhys Bennett’s wicked cross from the left flank that caused confusion amongst the Tavistock defence.
However, The Lambs responded immediately; equalising in the 9th minute when Exeter City loanee: Beardman, was on call to rebound past Joseph Wright, who was unfortunate to concede after initially denying Liam Prynn’s first time shot.
Cleeve responded well and had a couple of chances to re-take the lead through Harrison Reeves, whose worst enemy was becoming the defiant feet of Aaron Dearing in the host’s goal.
Consequently, Tavy took the lead for themselves in the twenty-first minute. Edward Harrison’s low-driven free-kick was diverted on to Joseph O’Connor, who was in the right place at the right time to prod home from close range.
The away side had chances to equalise before half-time, most notably through Ross Langworthy in first half stoppage time. Ethan Dunbar left the full back for dead and reached the by-line where he cut the ball back for Cleeve’s number 10 who scuffed just wide of the mark – a lucky escape for Tavistock who were fortunate to go in at half-time ahead.
As both sides went in for the break a member of the Mitres coaching staff was sent off for dissent, by the referee who had a controversial afternoon.
After substitute: Will Emery, rescued Paul Collicutt’s side with a goal-saving block on the line, Tavistock extended their advantage in the fifty-fourth minute.
Beardman netted his brace as he met a cross from the Red’s left wing to head the ball into the bottom right corner, kissing the foot of the post on its way in past Wright.
Cleeve were resilient and had a number of chances later on in the second half; particularly through Langworthy and substitute: Toby Holland, but it wasn’t their day as Tavistock were able to hold on; defending well.
The result takes the Lambs up to 8th place, one point and one place ahead of the visitors, who have a sharp turnaround – facing Yate Town in the Gloucestershire County Cup. Manager: Collicutt,  confirmed that he will look to utilise his squad; giving chances to players who haven’t played as much as they’d have liked to so far this season.
