Jay Malshasnkyj was first on the scoresheet, running at the Bashley defence and dancing around them to get the shot past Oscar Glover.
The second half saw Harry Williams get his second for the club, opening himself up on the edge of the box to get the goal with some help from the post.
Cleeve put themselves into the playoff spots after Shaftesbury’s 3-0 defeat to Didcot Town earlier on in the day.
Malshanskyj was first to finish when Ben Mclean found him with space, and he got past the two Bashley centre backs before hitting the target for his 10th of the season.
Mclean seemed to be Bashley’s worst nightmare, as he continued to vie for a goal as Harry Williams played the midfielder through on goal, but the shot was wide of the post.
Cleeve’s dominance was briefly interrupted when Will Turner misplaced the ball, and Scott Bungay took the opportunity to get an open shot off, which saw a brilliant one-handed save by Lewis Clayton to keep the scoreline in the Mitres’ favour.
Bungay had another go on goal which saw him beat Josh Nelmes on the left-hand side to get his shot off, but Clayton produced some quality to stop it.
Devanti McInerney’s cross was won by Williams, who laid the ball off to Zack Kotwica, and the ball skimmed the front post to end the first half.
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw the game turn scrappier, but Cleeve were more dormant, and Kotwica had a go from outside the box, and Glover was there to make the vital save.
The Mitres made it two in the 66th minute when McInerney passed the ball to Williams, who went around the Bashley defence to give himself space and lightly tap it past Glover to hit it off the post and into the back of the net to double the lead.
Williams thought he had his second of the game when Toby Holland played a brilliant ball across the box to the striker, but the goal was chalked off as Williams was deemed offside.
Ping pong was going on in the box, as Williams, Reegan Messenger and Ross Langworthy were all looking for a shot on goal. Langworthy got the shot in the end, but it was skied over from close range, leaving him goalless in his 150th appearance for the club.
Williams went through on goal, but Glover came off his line to make the save.
Bahsley still haven’t won a game since November; meanwhile, Cleeve will look more confident two points ahead of Shaftesbury in fifth.
Hopefully it will be third time lucky for Cleeve against Falmouth on Tuesday night, with the last two fixtures postponed due to weather.
