A Jack Watts hattrick helped Bishop’s Cleeve beat Hellenic League new boys Westbury United 5-2

Westbury started the match looking the more threatening with Joe Stradling testing Sam Gilder in the Cleeve goal early on a couple of times.

However Cleeve were seeing a lot of the ball and gradually started to cause problems of their own when a Blaine Waugh shot was parried into the path of the onrushing Kevin Slack to give the hosts the lead.

The lead was doubled shortly afterwards when a Kieran Alder through ball saw Jack Watts through on goal and the striker made no mistake.

Cleeve then put the game to bed ten minutes into the second half when Jake Rhodes placed a header past the ‘keeper from Waugh’s cross.

The lead was extended just three minutes later when Rhodes’ shot looked to be going safely wide but Watts appeared from nowhere through a crowd of Westbury defenders to stab the ball home.

Westbury were still looking to get on the scoresheet and were still causing some problems at the back but they conceded again when Sam Blackie’s cross was converted by Watts for his hattrick.

The visitors quickly pulled one back when Ryan Bole managed to bundle the ball in the back of the net from a freekick and Callum Demkiv got on the scoresheet too with the last kick of the game to make it 5-2.

Cleeve’s next match is on Tuesday night at home to Thornbury Town.
