Bishop’s Cleeve maintained top spot in the league with one of their biggest wins ever.

After a over a month of away matches Cleeve were hoping to settle back in quickly in their temporary home at Evesham United’s ground.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to take the lead as in the eighth minute Blaine Waugh’s cross evaded everyone in the box, apart from an unmarked Joe Selman at the far post who blasted in for his first Cleeve goal.

Ten minutes later, eventual Mitre of the Match Selman doubled the Mitres’ lead as he chested Jordan Annear’s pass and volleyed brilliantly from the edge of the box into the far side of the goal.

After another ten minutes, Kieran Alder was fouled on the edge of the box. The ever-young Kevin Slack stepped up and hit an absolutely fabulous thunderbolt into the top corner which not many ‘keepers would save.

Alder then scored another beauty as from the edge of the box he hit a curling effort over the ‘keeper into the far side of the goal.

It was five before half time when Linden Dovey’s tackle fell to Waugh clear on the right and his cross was headed home by Annear.

It could have been six a minute later but Jack Watts’ looped header hit the crossbar after beating the ‘keeper.

After half time the visitors started to create some openings with Josh Pandolfino and Sol Pryce seeing efforts blocked and Mark Thou looking lively on the right wing but Cleeve still looked well in control and just after the hour mark they extended the lead. Harrison Reeves, who had himself just hit the crossbar, fired in another shot which was parried to Waugh who blasted home.

Sub Jake Rhodes, returning from injury, had two brilliant chances to make it seven but saw both chances well saved by the ‘keeper but continued to cause issues for the Chipping Sodbury defence for the rest of the match.

Another sub, Steve Davies, set up the seventh as he slotted in Reeves who bearing down on goal blasted in at the near post.

The rout was complete on the stroke of full time as the visitors’ Liam Jones handled in the penalty area and Watts stepped up to score his twentieth goal of the season.

After the match Cleeve manager Paul Collicut said ‘We’ve scored , in the first half, five cracking goals. Slacky has hit a ball today like an absolute bullet and you won’t see a better freekick than that all season.

‘We’ve played some good football today, especially in the first half, we got a little bit sloppy which does happen but it’s very very difficult to knock when you’ve just gone and scored eight goals.
