BRUFC Spotlight - Leon Fifield

We hear from BRUFC's Player Leon Fifield and his history with the club

On the 5th April, we say a farewell to Leon Fifield. Who is playing his last game and retiring at the end of the season. Leon has been with us for 16 years and we appreciate everything he has done for us. We have a farewell message from him below:

“As I get ready to play my final game for the club I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who's been involved in my journey here over the last 16 years. There are far too many to name individually but to all the coaches, physio's, bar staff, board members, groundskeepers, spectators and players, thank you so much for making my time at Blackburn rugby club the best years of my life! I've enjoyed every single second and made some amazing memories along the way.

Playing wigan away to win the north Lancs/Cumbria league title in 2015 will always be one of my fondest memories and the playoff win against Scarborough infront of what felt like a crowd of 20000 is easily up there as one of the best days of my life. As well as the league successes I've also picked up a few Lancashire cup medals and although in the 22/23 season we so narrowly missed out on another promotion, being part of the team to achieve the club's highest ever league finish in a 148 year history is something I feel immensely proud of!

Since I joined the club there has always been a sense of ambition but I'd just like to give a special mention to Greg who I think since getting involved has really taken us to the next level, from a personal standpoint I think my skills, understanding and way of thinking about the sport have developed tenfold and if you continue to develop the talent we have here now in the same way I have no doubt that BRUFC's highest league finish will be surpassed very shortly.

During my time here I've played with some unbelievable players (some absolute garbage too) but more importantly I've made so many friends that I'll be mates with for the rest of my life, and none more so than the man that got me down here in the first place!

Dino, when you were coaching at St Mary's college and needed to rope in a footballer to get a squad to play in the Blackpool 9s I bet you didn't think it would take this long to get rid of me! Thank you so much for everything you've done for me and I feel privileged to call you a true friend!

Again, thank you to everyone involved in BRUFC, keep doing what you're doing and I'm looking forwards to enjoying a beer and supporting from the sidelines! - Leon”

We would like to thank Leon for his long commitment at the club, and for supporting us over the years. We wish you a happy retirement and hope to still see you down at the club for many more years!
