George Claxton - Update 1

George Claxton - Update 1

Tony White15 Mar 2012 - 10:52

I know you will all be delighted to hear that George Claxton is now sitting up in bed and in good spirits. We are told that he watched the England victory on Sunday. Apparently falling asleep in the last 5 minutes, so he missed the tension of the near drop goal by France! A great result in so many dimensions!

As you may have heard George underwent an operation last week and has now been slowly canted up into a sitting position. His dad Andrew reported on Monday that there is good improvement in his right arm, meaning George can now scratch an itch and gently hold small objects. He can move his left arm but his control has not yet returned to the same degree. The post operation chest infection is subsiding and he is now waiting on a transfer to a rehabilitation unit at Southport, Pinderfield or even Sheffield. This is where the real work with his physio will start and in the next few weeks the full possibilities of his progress understood.

Once he’s in rehabilitation he will be on the web via an iPad making it possible for you to reach him on Facebook and Skype, which I know he will really appreciate. More details on this will follow.

So many of you have expressed your best wishes and desire to do something positive to support George going forward, which is greatly appreciated by George and his family. The advice we are getting at this point is that we need to wait just a few more weeks until his diagnosis is better understood, and then we can we pull together in a way that will be meaningful to his expected circumstances.

In the meantime if you want to send a message to George and his family, please post a reply here email them to me on tonywhite@glendene.biz and we will pass on your best wishes.

Finally as updates are provided by his dad Andrew over the coming weeks we will post them here so you can all follow his progress.
