Fierce tackles keep the Rossendale score to zero

And we're back, missing a feminine touch this season, but some of our play right from the start was almost a beautiful as Connie! Our great pre-season work, especially last weeks bouncathon, seemed to really pay off, with the Rossendale lads being hounded around the Ramsgreave turf by pack of savages. Top hunter was Theo, who turned the ball over at least 20 times, hitting tackles and rucks with just one thing on his mind, getting his ball back off whatever unfortunate had been daft enough to hold it. Thomas P was soon in on the act, second in the larceny game, his spinning grip technique leaving the opposition wondering where the heck there ball was. But it was what we did next that was the real difference between the two sides, because the fluency and determination we showed in passing the ball down our lines of players was something wonderful to behold, with at least 3 tries the result of a string of passes that went to the right wing through hands before being passed all the way back to the left wing to score. Not sure who scored all of the tries but Theo definitely bagged a couple as did Tom and Jacob, who did a great job as captain today, while Brady also managed to bag a cracking debut try. Newbie Arthur put in a great shift, running himself ragged and taking a shot to the gob, but after a bit of TLC from dad, was back for more.
Commiserations to a spirited Rossendale side, who never gave up the ghost despite taking some heavy knocks and facing down the barrel of a heavy score count, they did have a few good breaks and hard running lines, but a Burn always seemed to have enough players in all parts of the pitch to put in the tackle or shepherd the lad into touch. All in all a great game of rugby, the scoreline does not do Rossendale justice, but I have to admit all 14 of our players were awesome today, a great start to the season.

We are off to Tarleton next Sunday, see some of you tomorrow at the schools tourney, or Wednesday at training, 6.30-7.30.
